Department Guidelines

Missed Evaluation Policy

It is expected that students will write all tests and quizzes as a class. If a student is unable to write an evaluation with the class because of previously scheduled appointments, school sanctioned excursions, school sports/team events and/or recognized religious events, they must inform the teacher well in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Failure to do so will result in a mark of zero; tests will not be dropped or replaced.

Acceptable documentation is defined as a parental or doctor’s note stating that the student was too ill to write the test; students who are 18 years old will also require documentation. Students should be prepared to write the test the day that they return to school otherwise this will result in a mark of zero.  In circumstances where an evaluation can not be written within an appropriate timeline, the upcoming exam percentage may be substituted for that evaluation at the teacher’s discretion.

Missed Examinations Policy

Students who miss an examination due to severe illness must present a detailed medical note from their doctor to the Main Office as soon as possible. Failure to do so will result in an exam mark of zero.  Students who legitimately miss exams may be given a replacement exam or the missed exam will be subject to a “fair” replacement mark at the teacher’s discretion. Exam marks will never be omitted from final averages. There are no exceptions for any other absence!
